Rebecca J. Mallum, 87, of Geneseo IL, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Per her wish, cremation rites have been accorded and no services will be held. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Becky was born on May 26, 1933, in Arion, Iowa, the daughter of John (Jack) and Myrtle (Baber) Malone. On January 8, 1950, she married Floyd Mallum in Dow City, Iowa. They had 6 children and lived in various Iowa towns before moving to Geneseo in the mid-1960's. Becky worked at the Bakers Cafe and Susie Q before becoming a CNA and began working at Hammond Henry Hospital and Good Samaritan, from where she retired after 25 plus years.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Paul) VanQuakebeke of Colona, Lori Wachtel (Randy Halley) of Port Byron; sons, Dan (Diane) Mallum; David (Brianna) Mallum; Dennis (Stacey) Mallum and Dwight (Linda) Mallum, all of Geneseo; 22 grandchildren which includes 11 original plus spouses/partners/steps of whom she always claimed as her own too; 21 great grandchildren plus one on the way, 3 bonus and 4 steps; nephew Douglas Majerus of Carroll, IA, and many other great nieces and nephews; also special friends Charlie Dykeman and Cara Nightingale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Juanita (August) Majerus; nephew, Andrew Majerus; brothers, Tom Malone and Delbert Lee Malone; infant granddaughter, Rebecca Jo Galle-Mallum; and granddaughter-in-law Kelli Fournier-Mallum.
