Robert Jagers

Robert J. Jagers, 86, passed away on March 16, 2026, with family by his side. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am on March 28, 2026, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory in Atkinson, IL.  A memorial service will begin directly after with Pastor Terry Lancaster officiating. Inurnment will be at the Annawan Township Cemetery, with military rights accorded. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Gathering Place in Atkinson, IL, following the burial service. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for the beautification of the Annawan Township Cemetery, or to the Annawan-Alba Library.

Bob was born on December 9, 1939, the son of Gordon and Alma (Dumolyn) Jagers. He graduated from Annawan High School in 1957 and served in the United States Army from 1959 – 1962. He married Mary Cunniff in June 1964. Bob worked at International Harvester Works, and later at the Moline Dispatch. He was a member of the Mineral Legion Post and a proud Veteran. One of his favorite memories was a trip with his son on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2022.  

Bob enjoyed family get-togethers, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid reader and always looked forward to finding another good book at the Annawan-Alba Library. He followed the Annawan, Wethersfield, and Princeton sports teams for many years sharing his gift of photography. He was a life-long Cubs fan, and recently cheered for the NY Mets.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children Thomas (Gail) Jagers of Princeton, IL and Stephanie (Michael) Van Herzeele of Coralville, IA; Mary Jagers, Annawan, IL; five grandchildren: Erin (Mario) Zanaty, Matthew (Madison) Van Herzeele, Eric (Kitty) Jagers, Alex Jagers, and Ryan Jagers; and two great grandsons, Marc and Nicholas Zanaty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Alma Jagers, siblings Leon, Marvin, and Maryann Ullrick, and brother-in-law, Jim Ullrick.
