Robert "Bob" Wiewel Obituary

Robert “Bob” Bernard Wiewel, 79, of Moline, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, in Orange Beach, AL.  A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Christ the King Church, 3209 60th Street, Moline.  Father Donald Levitt will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Atkinson.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m., prior to the visitation at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and Christ the King Church.

 

Bob was born March 25, 1944, the son of Walter and Wilma (Terstegge) Wiewel in Quincy, IL.  He graduated from Liberty High School, Liberty, IL, and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Illinois University.  He married Diane Carton, and together they had two sons.  Robert proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He then worked at Deere & Company headquarters until retiring after 35 years of service.  Bob’s hobbies included biking, chip carving, ballroom dancing, square dancing, and round dancing.  He and his wife, Diane, were members of the Wheel-N-Steppers and Merry Rounders dance clubs.  They did extensive traveling and cruised to many countries.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 246 and Christ the King Church, both in Moline.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Diane Wiewel; children, Douglas (Brooke) Wiewel of Palatine, IL, and Derek (Brenda) Wiewel of Brimfield, IL; grandchildren, Taylor and Josie Wiewel; and three siblings, Theresa (Harley) Baugher of Barry, IL, Kathleen (Leon) Lentz of Liberty, IL, and Fred (Donna) Wiewel of LaGrange, MS.

 

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Wilma Wiewel.
