Roger F. Mapes

Roger F. Mapes, 83, of Cambridge, IL, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.  Per the family’s wishes, a private funeral service will be held.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Roger was born September 16, 1938, the son of Wilbur and Dorthy (Fowler) Mapes, in Geneseo.  He graduated from Atkinson High School.  He proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1961 – 1966.  Roger was employed as a punch press operator at John Deere until his retirement.  On August 30, 1996, he married Linda Sable in Rockford, IL.  Roger and Linda enjoyed buying and selling antiques and they owned and operated Square Nail Antiques for several years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Linda, Cambridge; son, Andrew (Sharon) Mapes, Cambridge; stepson, Nicholas (Neva) Sable, California; stepdaughter, Lisa (Shawn) Conard, Geneseo; grandchildren, Blade (Kristin) Mapes, Jacob Mapes; step-grandchildren, Kyla McElroy, Bailey Snider, Taryn Conard, Payton Conard, Natalie Sable, and Jacob Sable; great-grandchild, Soren Mapes; step-great-grandchild, Marlee Juchinski; and brother, John (Jo) Mapes, Atkinson.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Dorthy Mapes; brother, Ralph Mapes; and sister, Diane DeWitt.
