Rudy B. Holmstrom

Rudy B. Holmstrom, 71, of rural Geneseo, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo Chapel. Reverend Matthew Kamprath will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Rudy Holmstrom Memorial Fund.

Rudy was born on May 6, 1947, the son of William and Kathryn (VanHyfte) Holmstrom, in Geneseo. He graduated from Geneseo High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Rudy married Bette A. Bear on January 27, 1985, in Aledo, IL. Bette survives him. Rudy was a lifetime farmer in the rural Geneseo area until his retirement. Rudy was a true outdoorsman and spent his life hunting and fishing and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved taking fishing trips to Canada to catch walleye and to bow hunt for moose. Rudy enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas to attend the National Rodeo Finals, golfing, and monthly coffees with classmates.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Bette; son, Ross Holmstrom, Geneseo; brother, Roy (Sandi) Holmstrom, Geneseo; mother-in-law, LaVeta Bear, Rock Island; brother-in-law, Gene (Krista) Bear, Aledo; nephews, Tim (Sherry) Holmstrom, and Chris (Cyrena) Holmstrom; niece, Angela (Scott) Holmstrom; and many great-nieces and nephews. Rudy is also survived by his two best companions, Spanky and Lizzie.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, and one infant brother.
