Sandra Roman

Sandra Roman, 81 of Atkinson, IL, passed away on October 30, 2025, at Hammond Henry Hospital. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at St Anthonys Catholic Church in Atkinson, IL. Father Stephen Engelbrecht will officiate. Burial will be at St Anthony Cemetery in Atkinson, IL. A recitation of the rosary will be held prior to visitation at 4:30 P.M. Visitation will be held at Vandemore Funeral Home – Atkinson Chapel from 5 P.M. – 7 P.M. on Monday, November 3, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Atkinson Fire and Rescue or to the family of Sandra Roman to be dispersed amongst local charities.

Sandra was born on March 14, 1944, the daughter of Arlo and Blanche (VanDeRostyne) Atwell in Geneseo, IL. She graduated from Atkinson High School. Sandra spent many years working in Atkinson at the High School and Hometown Market in Atkinson before retiring in 2016. She was an active member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Sandra loved being around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending all their activities as often as she could. She was always willing to help her family, that included babysitting for the grand dogs. Sandra loved being outside and doing yardwork. She was an avid Cubs and Bears fan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Deanne (Russ McComber) Swanson of Geneseo, IL, Scott (Rhonda) Roman of Rock Island, IL, and Stacey (Ryan Driessens) Roman of Moline, IL; grandchildren, Stephanie (Quinn Heilman) Swanson, Shane Swanson, Shawn (Jordan) Roman, Katelyn Roman, Karissa Roman, Lance (Lauda) Young, Lindsay (Raymeo) Campos, Elizabeth (Nic Myers) Antolik, Zachary Antolik; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Arlo and Blache; brother, Lester Atwell; and sister-in-law, Karen Atwell.
