Sharon Kay (Ethridge) Brown

Sharon Kay (Ethridge) Brown, 76, of Carbon Cliff, passed away on October 21, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.  Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a later date.  Burial will be held at Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona, IL.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel will assist the family with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sharon K. Brown Memorial Fund.

Sharon was born to Helen (Green) Ethridge and Bradford Ethridge on October 24, 1946, in Moline IL.  She married Richard Brown on October 18th, 1969, in Colona IL.  Sharon enjoyed listening to gospel music and reading the bible and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  In her younger years she enjoyed shopping and going to yard sales.  She was always known for having her favorite treat, a bomb pop, in hand.

Sister, Linda, would like to say "she was the best sister ever."; twin brother, Harold, would like to say "she always greeted you with the brightest smile and that he never forgot her birthday."; and daughter, Dama, would like to say "she was the most loving and tender mother you could ever have."; granddaughter, Courtney-Jade, would like to say "Grandma had a huge heart and loved hard. Always made sure that we ate, and that we all had what we needed. She was caring and passionate and always thought about everybody before herself. I am proud to be her grandchild."; granddaughter, Alexandria, would like to say “She had such a huge impact on my life, and it will truly never be the same without her. The love she had for her family was always unconditional. She would have moved mountains for any of us. I will miss her every day.”; daughter, Hope, would like to say “Her love knew no bounds. She selflessly dedicated herself to our family, always putting our needs before her own. Even in her absence, her love continues to guide us, and her memory continues to comfort us. She may not be with us in body, but her spirit lives on in each one of us. Rest in peace, dear mother. You are gone, but never forgotten. You will always be loved, remembered, and deeply missed.”; granddaughter, Megan would like to say “I am so grateful to have been raised by such an amazing woman. Maverick and I are who we are because of her. The love I have for her is unmeasurable.”

Those left to cherish her memory include her twin brother, Harold (Sue) Ethridge of East Moline; sister, Linda Wheeler of East Moline; daughters, Hope (Bill) Hintz of Carbon Cliff, Dama (Mike Williams) Brown of East Moline; grandchildren, Hartwell (Cory) (Emily) Steele III of New Liberty, IA,  Justin (Laren Lassuy) Reynolds of Silvis, Courtney-Jade Hudson of Walcott, IA, Logan Reynolds of Silvis, Megan Reynolds of Carbon Cliff, Adrianna Brown of East Moline, Alexandria Hudson of Altoona, IA, Taylor Brown of East Moline, and Christopher Williams of East Moline; great-grandchildren, Hartwell (Shawn) Steele IV of New Liberty, IA, Aoife McDaniel of New Liberty, Aubrie Steele of New Liberty, IA, Maddox Steele of New Liberty, IA, Maverick Massa of Carbon Cliff, Maclan Steele of New Liberty, IA, Alayah Brown of East Moline, Isaiah Harvey of East Moline, Alaina Williams of Colona, Ja’mere Webb of East Moline, and a new great-grandchild to arrive April of 2024.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Bradford Ethridge; husband, Richard Brown; brother, Bradley Ethridge; daughter, Crystal (Brown) Reynolds.
