Shirley Boone Obituary

Shirley Ruth Boone, of Geneseo, Illinois went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 6, 2026, at Allure of Geneseo.   She was 95 years old.

A Victory Life Celebration will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo, Illinois at 2 P.M. Pastor Roger Carlson to officiate.  Her resting place will be North Cemetery, Geneseo, Illinois.

Shirley Ruth was born March 18, 1931, in Moline, Illinois to Russell and Katherine Mungerson Perry.  She was a 1949 Rock Island High School graduate.  She earned her RN degree from Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline, Illinois in 1952.

She was an office nurse to Dr. C.S. Costigan, Moline, until she married Frank Robert “Bob” Schurr on May 8, 1954.  She was a farm wife until Bob’s death in 1972.  After moving off the farm to the town of Sherrard, Illinois, she worked as a clerk at the Sherrard Post Office.

Shirley united in marriage to William F. Boone (Bill) on June 14, 1975, after which she relocated to Geneseo, Illinois and was a homemaker.

Bill and Shirley loved to travel.  They traveled the United States as well as abroad.  Shirley’s favorite trip was to the Holy Lands in Israel.  She had the privilege of walking where Jesus had once lived and walked.

Shirley was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She loved her Lord, Jesus, going to church, and her church family.  Music was of special interest to her, especially the old hymns and southern gospel.

Shirley loved to cook, bake, and show hospitality by serving delicious meals.  Her family, friends and neighbors enjoyed the fruits of her labor.

She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan even visiting each of their stadiums.  She looked forward to watching the Kentucky Derby each year with the comment that no one should call during the time the Derby was televised.

The Lord blessed Shirley with the gift of giving and generosity.  Sharing with others filled her with much joy.

Those who remain to honor her memory are her husband of 51 years, Bill; her daughter, Lisa (Timothy) Dalton, Sartell, MN; her son, Lane (Paula) Schurr, Forreston, Il; stepdaughters, Deb (Ki) Wirth, Geneseo, Il; Monica (Scott) Bonyne, Colorado Springs, Co; five grandchildren, five great – grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two step great grandchildren.
