Shirley Marie Copeland

Shirley Marie Copeland, 78, of Colona, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel.  Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.  Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 28, 2023, at Dayton Corners Cemetery, Colona.  Visitation will be from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be directed to the Shirley M. Copeland Memorial Fund, which will be distributed amongst local charities that are meaningful to the family.

Shirley was born July 4, 1945, the daughter of Raymond and Mabel (Haskins) Hill, in Fairfield, IA.  On January 18, 1964, Shirley married Anthony J. “Tony” Copeland at a service held in Silvis, IL.  He preceded her in death in 2009.  Shirley enjoyed crafting, flower gardening, being outside, painting, dancing, karaoke, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Shirley will be remembered for her wonderful smile that would light up a room.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tanya (Brad) Moffitt of Beecher, IL, Troy (Rhonda) Copeland of Sherrard, IL, and Tyann (Chris) Hintgen of Geneseo; grandchildren, Alexis (Greg) Smedley, Karlie and Brandon Moffitt, Lauren and Jenna Copeland, Gavin, Graysen, and Grechyn Hintgen; great-grandchildren, Kelsie and Kylie Smedley; and sister, Darlene Ward of Silvis, IL.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mabel Hill; her husband, Tony Copeland; sister, Maxine Pettit; and brother, Don Hill.
