Stephen “Steve” J. Black, 72, of rural Annawan, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer, at Allure of Geneseo. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private service will be held at a later date. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Atkinson Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be directed to Heartland Hospice Care, Davenport, or Henry County Humane Society – Geneseo.
Steve was born on March 7, 1947, the son of Alger and Jayne (Stevens) Black, in Spring Valley, IL. He married Colleen Benson on December 28, 2001, in Bishop Hill, IL. He was employed as a steel mill crane operator at the steel mill, Hennepin, IL. He enjoyed going to antique tractor shows, tractor pulling, farming, drag racing, watching sports, fishing, and going on RV trips with his wife Colleen. He loved their dog Coco.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Colleen; son, Jim Black, Belvidere, IL; daughter, Sarah Cunliffe, Princeton, IL; four grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alger and Jayne.
