Born in Annawan, IL on April 18, 1936, Steve spent his childhood on the family farm near Sheffield, where he lived and worked throughout his life.  Steve graduated from Mineral High School and served in the Marine Reserves before joining The National Guard. He was an active member of the Masons for 64 years and contributed to his community through membership in The Elks in Princeton, IL.  Steve had a diverse career, starting as a farmer and later serving with the Illinois State Police Force for 25 years. He also worked as a surveyor, including at The Peabody Coal Mines.  In his leisure time, Steve was passionate about music and played saxophone with The Melody Five during his youth. He had a lifelong love for Country Western music and enjoyed listening to his favorite artists and shows until his final days.  Steve and Sally enjoyed golfing together at The Hidden Lake Golf Club, fishing trips, and traveling to visit family and friends. They cherished exploring new places, especially during winter months.  Steve was known for his dedication, hard work, and unwavering love for his family and farm. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his beloved wife Sally and his children: Crystal Ryerson (Tim) of Prescott, AZ; Connie Lucas (Gary) of Princeton, IL; Alan Riley (Sasha) of Prescott Valley, AZ; Brian Sierens (Karen) of Oskaloosa, IA; and Bob Sierens (Alison) of Glencoe, IL. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Ward and Ethyle Riley, his brother Stan Riley, and his son Stevie Riley.

As we remember Steve’s life and mourn his passing, we find comfort in the memories we shared. May he rest in peace.
