Sue Eloise (Neavins) Lohman, age 84, passed away on June 18, 2022, at Allure of Geneseo. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Father Daniel Gifford will officiate. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00, prior to the memorial mass at the church. Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel is assisting the family. Sue was born in Davenport, Iowa on October 6, 1937, to Harry and Lucile (Sorrowfree) Neavins and grew up in Rock Island, IL, with her siblings, Carolu, Robert and Thomas. Sue attended the Villa de Chantel and briefly furthered her education at Marquette University. Sue worked at the Rock Island Mill Works Co. before marrying her former husband and father of her children, Lee E. Lohman, on October 25, 1958, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Island, IL. Sue and Lee then moved to Geneseo, IL, where Sue lived the rest of her life.
Sue loved to travel and spend as much time at the Lake as she could, especially in the summer and during New Years. Sue enjoyed large family gatherings and bonfires, no matter what the weather. She loved her Birthday dinners with her children and their spouses. Sue enjoyed the music of Neil Diamond and John Denver. Sue loved playing cards, she was an expert Bridge player and taught card games and Bridge to many and was part of several Bridge Clubs over the years. Sue enjoyed bowling and had been part of various Investment Groups. She loved spending time with her Coffee Group and hosting their Christmas Breakfast.
Sue was a devoted member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Women of the Moose. Sue served on the Hammond Henry Hospital Auxiliary, the Hammond Henry Hospital Foundation and had served as a Trustee for St. Malachy’s Catholic Church. Sue also enjoyed spending time with patients and residents of Hammond Henry Hospital’s Extended Care.
Sue will forever be missed by her children, Brett Lohman, Todd (Chris) Lohman, Scott (Pam) Lohman, Jill (Joe) Dubin, and Lynn (Jeff) Anderson; son-in-law, Steve Freehling; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jenny), Kelsey (Brian), Lesley (Brandon), Andrew (Ryann), Brooke (Mike), Pierce (Megan), Paige, Reece, Brock, Mineva, Lily, Ayden and Archer; and her great-grandchildren, Porter, Baker, Redding, Cooper and Faith; her siblings, Robert and Thomas Neavins and their families; sister Carolu Condon’s family; extended Oberg and Lohman family, including a special sister-in-law, Verla Lohman and her family.
Sue was preceded in death by her Parents-Harry and Lucile; sister, Mary Neavins; sister and brother-in-law, Carolu and Jack Condon; daughter-Jann Freehling; daughter-in-law, Karla Lohman; and a granddaughter, Lauren Lohman.
