Vern was born on March 25, 1940, the son of August and Margaret (Holevoet) Sherbeyn, Jr.  He graduated from Atkinson High School.  He proudly served in the Illinois National Guard.  On November 10, 1962, he married Betsy Stottler during a service at St. Malachy Catholic Church.  She preceded him in death on Friday, August 14, 2015.  Vernon was most proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was employed as a deep foundation specialist at Blackhawk Foundation Company for 40 years.  Betsy and Vern loved to travel. They traveled to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, Las Vegas, California, Minnesota, Boston, and Tennessee, to name a few of the more memorable destinations.  He enjoyed working in the yard, and gardening.  He was proud of his yard and his lawn always “looked like a carpet”.  He loved vintage cars and enjoyed being a member of the Maple City Cruisers, where he met a lot of good friends.  He was one of the founding members of Maple City Cruisers.  Vern was also a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge where him and the guys enjoyed Taco Tuesday’s along with going to various other places around town. He was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church, the Cursillo prayer group and Knights of Columbus.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children; Michael (April) Sherbeyn of Portland, TN, Kelly (Polly) Sherbeyn of Geneseo, Annette (Sunder Subbaroyan) Sherbeyn of Davenport, IA and Penny (Curt) Samuelson of Geneseo; brother, Tom (Debbie) Sherbeyn of Geneseo; sister, JoAnn Sager of Moline; sisters-in-law, Joy Sherbeyn and Dorothy Sherbeyn, 13 grandchildren, Zackary Sherbeyn, Kyle (Ray) Guillermo, Lauren Sherbeyn, Gabrielle Sherbeyn, David Sherbeyn, Connor Sherbeyn, Buddy Sherbeyn, Paxton Sherbeyn, Mark Vandemore, Jacob Samuelson, Levi (Paige) Samuelson, Noelle (Isaac) Logan, and Noah Samuelson;  9 great grandchildren with one on the way.
