Wayne E. Carter, 78, of Colona, IL, passed away on May 11, 2024, peacefully at home with his family. Visitation for Wayne will be held from 10-11 AM on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory-Geneseo Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 AM at Greenview Memorial Gardens-East Moline with Rev. Mark Graham officiating. Memorials can be made in his name to the family to be dispersed at a later date.
Wayne was born on August 3, 1945, in Moline, IL, the son of Clayton and Shirley (Woodrow) Carter. He married Suzanne Boney on April 22, 1967, and she survives. He served in the United States Navy from 1964-1968 in Vietnam. Wayne worked as an electrical engineer at John Deere Harvester and after retiring he taught electronics and electrician apprenticeships at Hamilton, Blackhawk, and Scott Community College. He loved working and repairing antique radios, collecting them, and anything electronic or sci-fi. Wayne and Suzanne were members of Grace United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Suzanne Carter of Colona, son, Eric Carter of Michigan, sister, Christine Creekmore of Moline, son-in-law, Michael Besette Sr., grandchildren; Sabrinna Popp, Nathaniel (Miruki) Popp, Zachary Popp, Caroline (Connor) Markusic, Elizabeth Besette, Michael Besette Jr., and Edward Besette, great grandchildren; Stanley Popp, Phoebe Popp and Maddison Markusic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Shirley Carter and daughter, Nicole Besette.
