William Sand Obituary

William H. Sand, born on September 19, 1943, in Geneseo, Illinois, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, in Overland Park, Kansas. He was a devoted son, loving husband, father and grandfather, cherished friend, and respected by all who knew him.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Reverend Terry Lancaster will officiate.  Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory – Geneseo Chapel will be assisting the family with arrangements.

Bill was a man of integrity and kindness, with a steadfast dedication to those he loved, including his numerous family dogs, which brought him great joy. Bill often spoke fondly of his childhood experiences in Geneseo, where he embraced the values of hard work, responsibility, and compassion instilled in him by his family and family friends. He would often take note of special people who helped him along the way and never forgot those who contributed to his success.

Bill was extremely proud of his work. He served as a valued employee of John Deere for 41 years and retired as Vice President of Product Support. Bill left a significant impact on everyone he encountered. He had an eye for quality and was a straight shooter. Whether through his professional endeavors or personal relationships, you always knew where you stood, and he was admired for his wisdom and clarity. His presence brought comfort and joy to those around him, making him a beloved figure in the hearts of many.

Bill’s ultimate devotion was to Mary Ann. Married for 61 years – she was the love of his life. They were an amazing pair and, together, they carved out a wonderful life for themselves and others around them. Even as his health deteriorated his primary concern was for her well-being. There is no doubt he is still watching out for her, ensuring she is okay, and patiently waiting for her.

Bill is warmly remembered by all fortunate enough to have shared moments with him. His legacy will live on in the memories he created, the example he offered, and the lives he touched throughout his years. His spirit and character will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Carl Herbert Carlson, Francis H. Sand, Vera I. Leonard Sand & brother Richard Sand.

Bill is survived by his spouse, Mary Ann (Schuetzler) Sand, children Michael (Genevieve) Sand, James (Ann Wettergren) Sand, Jennifer (Bob) DeVine, siblings, Vernon (Arlene) Sand, Jayne (Gary) Stanley & Barb (Jim Wilson) Hanson, grandchildren, Benjamin Sand, Zachary DeVine, Abigail Sand, Emma Sand & Mackenzie DeVine.
