Steve Welch was born on November 2, 1936, in El Paso, Illinois, the son of John and Frances (Moran) Welch. On January 28, 1961, he married the love of his life, Jane Orolin. Their 65-year marriage was filled with deep love and a strong family bond that touched everyone around them. He proudly served in the United States Army and was employed as a computer specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Fantastic” to those closest to him, Steve found great pleasure in life's simple enjoyments. He loved playing shuffleboard, watching basketball games, coaching youth baseball, and faithfully attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, where his enthusiastic support was always felt.
A longtime member of the Moose Lodge, Steve valued the camaraderie and community it provided. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, dedication to family, and the joy he brought to those fortunate enough to know him.
Those left to treasure his memory include his loving wife, Jane Welch of Geneseo; children, Nina (Jeff) Robb of Bettendorf, IA, Bob (Joyce) Welch of Florissant, MO, Mike (Meghan) Welch of Moline, Chris (Denise) Welch of Geneseo, and Pat Welch; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Welch; six siblings; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
