March 21, 1930 ~ August 19, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Elwood B. “Oddie” Marshall, 86, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Geneseo, passed away on Friday August 19, 2016 at the Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.  Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, August 24 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo.  Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Rosedale Cemetery in Cambridge, where Military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083.  Visitation for Oddie will be on Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at Vandemore’s, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Quad Cities Honor Flight.

 

Oddie was born on March 21, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Gilbert C. and Opal (Baird) Marshall.  He graduated from the Morning Sun High School in 1947, and he also graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in accounting.  He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War form 1950-1953.  He was united in marriage to Beverly J. Broeker on March 6, 1954 in Morning Sun Iowa and she preceded him in death on September 4, 2004. Oddie and Beverly owned and operated the Marshall’s Greenhouse in Dewitt, Iowa for Many Years as well as Bev’s & Oddie’s Vegetables at the River city farmers market in Davenport.

Oddie was a former member of the Don Cherry VFW Post, Geneseo and the Geneseo Moose Lodge. He was a 60 year member of the IBEW Union, he coached little league Baseball & Football in Geneseo, and helped reform the Legion Baseball Team. He was proud to have had the opportunity to go on the Honor Flight in October of 2013.

 

Survivors include his daughter: Karen (Jeff) Hutchinson, Cambridge; son: Jim Marshall, DeWitt, Iowa; grandchildren: Jo Lea (Joseph) Holevoet, Jill (Jeff) Franks, Malea Marshall (Jim Shipley), Joshua Hutchinson (Kayleigh Little), Kayla Carlson; great grandchildren: Gavin and Garrett Franks; sister: Mary (Ron) MacDonald; brothers: Albert (Linda) Nichols, Ronald Nichols, and David (Marilyn) Nichols; sister-in-Law: Margie Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
