George W. Yackley

George W. Yackley, 93, of Atkinson, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo.  A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson.  Father S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate.  Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Hooppole.  Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory in Atkinson. A Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Home or St. Anthony Catholic Church.

George was born on April 25, 1923, in Hardwick, MN, the son of George S. and Myrtle (Warnock) Yackley.  He was united in marriage to Anna S. Sagon on November 6, 1948, in Moline, IL.  She preceded him in death on May 26, 2013.  George farmed in rural Geneseo.  He later worked for the Rock Island Lines Railroad.  He also worked for Central Bank, in the maintenance department, and drove a school bus for Pinks Bus Service for 16 years.  George was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.  He enjoyed woodworking and playing cards.  He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Martina (Ed) Kopel of Geneseo, IL, and Georgianna (George) Suppes of Waterloo, IA; sons, James (Suzanne) Yackley of Davenport, IA, and Martin (Dorothy) Yackley of Winter Haven, FL; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Yackley of Moline, IL, and Joyce Sagon of Moline, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Vanessa Baarck and Ruth Haars, and brother, Paul “Doc” Yackley.
