My mom, Ruth Yackley-Haars, took a picture of me with uncle George teaching me to drive a John Deere tractor as I was holding the steering wheel. I was 5 years old then in 1945 and I learned to drive a tractor through and open gate when an adult would open it and close behind it. Then an adult would take over driving until I was a few years older. Uncle George and his brother Doc Yackley were kind to me. I was ring bearer in both their weddings and they both made it to 50+ years of marriage. I hope to make that in 2 more years. Uncle George was kind, friendly, and always in good spirits. I visited him last year and he was watching his favorite TV show Gunsmoke. He was always talking about the yearly Yackley reunion. Uncle George's Dad was one of at lest 17 children by one woman. I could never keep up with all those relatives. It is not just loosing a good man but also loosing the history that he had. I can still see Uncle George going to St Anthony's Church on Sunday and wearing a suit. Today most people don't dress up anymore when that was the way it use to be. You did good Uncle George, You did good.

George was my bus driver when I was a kid and I worked at Pinks' for years, too. He made me a beautiful wooden box when I graduated high school that I still have and it's in my little girl's room now. I'm thankful that I got to see George two weeks ago when I visited my mom at Hillcrest. We visited for a bit and he gave me a big hug when I left. Sending prayers of comfort to his family. He will be missed.

It is a sad day in our Village when this man left all of us. May the Angels lead him into Paradise. A nicer man I don't know who it would be.
