Martin L. Angevine

Martin L. “Marty” Angevine, 94, of Geneseo, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Woodridge Assisted Living Facility, where he had been residing.  A Funeral Service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 18, 2013, at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo, IL.  Reverend Bruce Bergthold will officiate.  Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation for Marty will be held 9:30-11:00 a.m. (prior to the service) Monday, March 18th, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church of Geneseo.

Marty was born on September 2, 1918, to Loch and Florence (Hornecker) Angevine in Osco Township.  He was united in marriage to Odetta Wayne on June 28, 1942, in Geneseo.  She preceded him in death in 1999.  Marty farmed in Osco Township all his life.  He owned and operated The Geneseo Cattle Co., and also bought hogs for Swift and Co. of Chicago.  He was a director and Chairman of the Board of The State Bank of Osco for 37 years, as well as a director and founder of the Illini Beef Packers.  

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Geneseo, Stewart Lodge No. 92 and the Mohammad Shrine Temple in Peoria.  He was also a 4th Ward Alderman in the 1960s in Geneseo.  Marty enjoyed baseball and pro football. He raced harness horses and enjoyed fishing in Canada.

Martin is survived by daughter, Lynne Wilder, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; son-in-law, Charles (Laura) Palmer;  granddaughter, Ashley (Matt) Lindsay, Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandson, Patrick (Paula) Wilder, Eldridge, IA; and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Griffin, and Claire Wilder and Charlie and Case Lindsay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Odetta, his daughter, Karen Palmer and his brother, Lyall Angevine.
