Carter J. Yackley, 9, of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago.  A Funeral Mass of the Angels celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 1st, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Atkinson.  Father S. Stephen Engelbrecht will celebrate the Mass.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Atkinson.  Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Friday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Atkinson.  In lieu of flowers and statuaries, the family requests memorials are made to the Carter Yackley Memorial Fund.

 

Carter was born on August 20, 2005, in Moline, IL, the son of Matthew and Kimberly (Cathelyn) Yackley.  He attended Southwest School and was ready to start 4th grade in the fall.  Carter was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.  He also belonged to the Junior Bowling Association.  Nobody was a stranger to Carter. He loved people.  He loved his school, singing, dancing, and acting.  He took acting classes at the Junior Theatre in Davenport.  Carter’s wish was to eventually make movies and sell them at the Geneseo Walmart.  Scooby-Doo was his favorite and he was able to meet him on his “Make A Wish” trip to Disney.  Carter especially loved attending his Torreyson Cousin Camp every year.

 

He is survived by his parents, Kim and Matt Yackley; sisters, Emily and Addison Yackley; grandparents, Lynn and Pam Cathelyn, Atkinson, IL, Pete Yackley, Geneseo, IL, and Saundra and Don Walker, Austin, TX; great-grandparents, Pat Yackley, Geneseo, IL, Shirley Crawford, Colona, IL, and Bernice Cathelyn, Atkinson, IL; uncles, Brendon Cathelyn, Atkinson, IL, and Nick Yackley, Geneseo, IL; and several great aunts and uncles, numerous cousins, and many special friends, including Team Carter.

 

He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Betty and Don Zapizek, Wilbur Cathelyn, and Paul “Doc” Yackley; and his aunt, Tiffany Cathelyn.
