Eberta M. (Schmoll) DeBaillie

Eberta M. DeBaillie, 82, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo.  A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23rd at Loraine United Methodist Church in Prophetstown.  Reverend Jeff Haley will officiate.  Private inurnment will be at Loraine Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the fellowship hall of the church for a time of reflection, visiting, and light refreshments. Cremation Rites have been accorded by Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, who are assisting the family with arrangements.  Memorials may be made to Pat’s Table or Geneseo Food Pantry Building Fund.

Eberta was born on September 19, 1934, in Geneseo, IL, the daughter of Harold and Esther (Peterson) Schmoll.  She graduated from Geneseo High School.  She was united in marriage to Phillip L. DeBaillie on October 16, 1955, at Ebenezer Church in Geneseo.  She was a sales clerk at Smith Farm Supply for many years and later at Family Medical in Geneseo, as an office associate.  

Eberta was a very active member of Loraine United Methodist Church and Evening Circle.  She was a longtime Treasurer for the church.  She was a former member of the Henry County Homemakers and former board member of the Geneseo Food Pantry.  Eberta volunteered with the Hammond-Henry Hospital Auxiliary and at Pat’s Table in Prophetstown, which provided free meals to people.  She was still active in helping with the apple pie project at church. She enjoyed quilting and flower gardening.  She loved spending time with her family and showed everyone the joy of hospitality.

She is survived by her husband, Phillip; daughters, Loraine (Michael) Henthorn of Erie, IL, Beth Ann (Kalmar) Fox of Geneseo, IL, and Laurel (Edward) Resendez of Woodstock, GA; son, Lee (Jennifer) DeBaillie of Verona, WI; grandchildren, Nicolas (Annie) Henthorn, Neal (Karissa) Henthorn, Brennan, and Tyle Fox, Rachel, Olivia, and Eddie Resendez, Phillip and Anna DeBaillie; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Wilbur Schmoll of Cambridge, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Avis, Doris, and Julie.
