La Verne C. West

La Verne C. West, 94, of Geneseo, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, surrounded by his family at Hammond-Henry Long Term Care.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 27th at Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, Geneseo.  Melva England will officiate.  Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.  Visitation will be from 4-7pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the La Verne West Memorial Fund.

La Verne was born on May 16, 1922 in Cornwall Township, Atkinson, IL, the son of Frank and Alta (Greer) West.  He was united in marriage to Gladys Kleckner on October 1, 1949 in Rockford, IL.  She preceded him in death in 2007.  La Verne was a lifetime grain and livestock farmer in rural Geneseo, retiring in 1987.

La Verne was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.  He was active in 4-H in his youth and had been a past member of the Geneseo Lions Club.  He enjoyed his family, especially following his grandchildren and their activities.

He is survived by his daughter: Dixine (Rick) Grantham of Jackson, MO; sons: Don (Peggy) West of Geneseo, IL, and Duane (Karen) West of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren: Tyler Grantham, Hunter (Hailee) Grantham, Brian, Barry, and Brody West, Brock, Chelsea, and Hannah West; step grandchildren: Megan and Kate Dochterman; great grandchildren: Lennon, Ashlyn, Kale, and Eva; and his sister: Elizabeth Gradert of Geneseo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, his parents, and his sister Genevieve Delp.
