Marian A. Jongejan, 91, of Geneseo, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015, at Hillcrest Home in Geneseo. Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services. Private inurnment will be in North Cemetery, Geneseo. Vandemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Geneseo is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Marian was born on May 20, 1923, in Lynn Center, IL, the daughter of Harry and Anna (Peterson) Johnson. She attended Geneseo schools. She married Phillip Hickman in Kahoka, MO in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1964. She married Tom Jongejan in Yakama, WA in 1966. He preceded her in death in 1984. She lived in Mountlake Terrace, WA most of her married life. She and Tom were involved in the horse racing business for many years. Marian named and was the first proud owner of the famous Seattle Slew who won many races including the Triple Crown in 1977. She moved to Geneseo in 1989.

 

She is survived by her sister, Verla Shelton of Geneseo, her brother, Clarence (Lisa) Johnson of Cambridge, and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, Naomi Riceman and Maxine Miller, and her brother, Harry Johnson.
