Marjorie J. VanHyfte, 89, of Annawan, passed away with the grace and dignity that she always displayed in life, with her son, Rodger, and his partner, James, by her side, on Saturday, May 18, at Unity Trinity Point, Rock Island, IL. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Annawan, IL. Reverend Mark Miller will celebrate. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Atkinson. Visitation for Marjorie will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Vandemore Funeral Home in Atkinson, IL, where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Marjorie VanHyfte Memorial Fund.
Marjorie was born on June 29, 192,3 in Annawan, IL, the daughter of Henry and Augusta (Mariman) DeGerengel. She was united in marriage to Marvin F. VanHyfte. Marvin preceded her in death in 1992. Marjorie was a sales associate for 28 years at Four Seasons in downtown Geneseo. She, and her husband, Marvin, farmed in rural Annawan for many years and she was proud to still be living on the family farm. She also worked for many years at Guild’s Drug Store in Annawan, IL.
Marjorie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Annawan as well as the Altar and Rosary Society. She taught CCD classes at Sacred Heart. She enjoyed her violets, doing housekeeping, her clock collection, raising her children, and spending time with her grandchildren. Recently she also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by a son, Rodger VanHyfte and his partner, James Turilli, East Moline; two daughters, Barbara VanHyfte, Moline, and Bernadine (Chuck Schrader) VanHyfte, Geneseo; three grandchildren, Christine VanHyfte, Cynthia VanHyfte, and Noah Schrader.
She was preceded by her parents, her husband, Marvin, and son, Robert VanHyfte.
