Carl W. Cochran, 82, of Geneseo, passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 at V.A. Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, IA. A Funeral Mass celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 1st at St. Malachy Catholic Church, Geneseo. Father Michael Pakula will celebrate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Monday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Carl Cochran Memorial Fund.
Carl was born on September 3, 1933 in Rock Island, IL, the son of Harry and Magda (Gustafson) Cochran. He graduated from Geneseo High School. Carl was united in marriage to Arlene M. Specht on June 17, 1953 in Fort Lewis, WA. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. Carl was the owner and operator of Carl Cochran & Son Homebuilder in Geneseo for over 50 years.
Carl was a member of St. Malachy Catholic Church. He also belonged to the Geneseo Moose Lodge and the Geneseo Railroad Train Club. He enjoyed collecting G scale trains and had an extensive collection. He was an avid and very accomplished woodworker.
He is survived by his wife Arlene; daughters: Sue Cochran of Coal Valley, IL, Pam (Dave) Littig of Geneseo, IL; son: Steve Cochran of Geneseo, IL; grandchildren: Justin Cochran, Brandon Cochran, Katie Cochran, Dennis (Lisa) Johnson, Dawn (Mike) Dunbar; 8 great grandchildren; sisters: Patricia Johnson of Geneseo, IL, Rosetta Byers of Kewanee, IL, and Kathy (Mike) Higgins of Davenport, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joy Sundeen.
