November 7, 1918 ~ November 6, 2016 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Lloyd T. Cleair, 97, of Davenport, formerly of Atkinson, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Bickford Cottage in Davenport.  A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, November 10th at Atkinson Congregational Church.  Rev. Jacob Stansberry will officiate.  Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery Atkinson, where Military Honors will be accorded by the Atkinson American Legion Post.  Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Wednesday at Vandemore Funeral Homes, Atkinson, followed by a Masonic Lodge Ritual will be at 7 pm by Stewart Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM.  Memorials may be made to the Atkinson Congregational Church.

 

Lloyd was born on November 7, 1918 in Melcher-Dallas, Monroe County, IA, the son of Minos and Florence (Ream) Cleair.  He graduated from Melcher-Dallas High School.  He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII.  He was united in marriage to May McEldowney on July 3, 1940 in Tipton, IA.  She preceded him in death in 2005.  Lloyd farmed in rural Atkinson for many years as well as worked at I.H. works in East Moline as a layout inspector for 23 years, from which he retired in 1979.

 

Lloyd was a member of the Atkinson Congregational Church, Stewart Masonic Lodge #92 AF & AM, and the Atkinson American Legion.  He enjoyed woodworking, wood carving, golfing, and deer hunting.  He loved spending time with his family, especially attending all the grandkids sporting events.

 

He is survived by his children: Denis (Rose) Cleair of Geneseo, IL, Katherine (Bob) Ruser of Davenport, IA, Kenny (JoAnn) Cleair of Arcadia, MO, Janet (Dennis) Passini of Coal Valley, IL, Larry (Beverly) Cleair of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Jerry (Jan) Cleair of Joplin, MO; 9 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, May, his parents, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

 

The family would love to thank the Bickford Cottage, Davenport and Beacon of Hope Hospice for the wonderful care they gave to Lloyd and the care they’ve extended to the family.
