Donald L. Spurck

Donald L. Spurck, 86, of Geneseo, IL, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo, IL. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Colona, IL. Father Peter Zorjan and Deacon Aaron Hoste will celebrate. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in East Moline, IL, where military honors will be accorded. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Geneseo Football Boosters.

Don was born on March 12, 1931, the son of Ralph and Hazel (Wellenraiter) Spurck, in Rock Island, IL. Don is a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He married Mary E. Gragg on April 4, 1959, at St. Mary Church in Moline, IL.  Don worked for BNSF Railroad Company as a clerk for 37 ½ years before his retirement in 1993. He was an avid Geneseo football fan and followed his grandchildren and their activities and events closely. He enjoyed listening to and following the Drum and Bugle Corps.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary, son, Gregory (Karen) Spurck, Omaha, NE, daughters, Elaine (Aaron) Hoste, Colona, IL, and Michelle (Rob) Ries, Geneseo, and grandchildren, Nichole (Matthew) Fiscella, Amanda (Bob) Bowling, Autumn (Bill) Eberly, Adam (Nina) Hoste, Cassidy (Andrew) Jacobitz, Bailey Ries, and Braden Ries. Don also has five great-grandchildren, Rylee, Regan, Emma, Allison, and Lillian.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Hazel, brother, Edwin Spurck, and sister, Margaret Morrison.
