Wayne Q. Strafford, 82, of Geneseo, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Unity Point-Trinity in Rock Island, IL. A graveside funeral service will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery on Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Robert Fitts will officiate. Visitation for Wayne will be Wednesday, October 25, 2017, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the American Heart Association.

 

Wayne was born on September 18, 1935, the son of Archie and Lillian (Forbes) Strafford, in Moline, IL. He graduated from Moline High School with the class of 1953. Wayne married Sharon G. Craig on May 19, 1962, at Bethel Church in Moline, IL. Wayne is a US Army veteran and served his country in Germany. During his earlier years, Wayne worked in construction. Wayne worked as a salesman at Lamco Slings & Rigging in Moline for 20 years before working at Allquip in Geneseo, IL. He retired in 2001.  Wayne was a former board member of the City of Geneseo Street Department and a proud member of NRA. He coached girls’ softball and continued to follow their statistics after coaching. Wayne loved yard work, gardening, fishing, hunting and watching his favorite Chicago sports teams, the Cubs and Bears.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon, his daughter, Amy (Marty) Hanson, Colona, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lillian, brother, Lauren and one brother in infancy.
