George S. Sears, 80, of rural Atkinson, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. Funeral Services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Atkinson; where Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083. Visitation for George will be from 4 – 8 pm Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd, Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to the Concordia Lutheran Church or Atkinson Rescue Squad.
George was born on October 30, 1931 in Munson Township rural Geneseo, the son of Charles and Orpha (West) Sears. He was a 1949 graduate of Geneseo High School. George proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps. He was united in marriage to Joan L. Gernant on February 18, 1951 in Concordia Lutheran Church. George was a livestock and grain farmer in rural Atkinson for over 60 years. He also owned and operated Sears Trucking in Atkinson for 55 years. George was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and served on the Liberty Cemetery Board. He enjoyed fishing, and welding unique artifacts.
Survivors include his wife Joan, two sons Randy (Kathy) Sears, Atkinson; Jay (Virginia) Sears, Geneseo; four grandchildren Chad Sears, Amy (Micah) Ponto, Luke (Lindsey) Sears, Mallory (Ryan) Wirth, one great grandchild Deklen Sears, three sisters Elvera (Frederick) Reiling, Atkinson; Phyllis (Alvin) Gradert, Atkinson; and Dorothy (Bob) Mills, Geneseo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
